Today a Federal Judge ruled in favor of New England Patriots Quarterback, Tom Brady. I don’t need to explain why he went before the judge, it’s been overdone by the media for the past 8 or 9 months. If you don’t know about it, Google it. The “deflategate” fiasco has been around long enough that we all know why he was suspended for 4 games by the Commissioner. This sour and incorrect judgement will now open the floodgates for any and all who have received, or will receive, suspensions for criminal activity or violations of NFL codes. Just as Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson shouldn’t be enshrined in Baseball’s Hall of Fame, Brady should have been told he has to sit out his suspension. All three broke the rules. Putting Brady in the same class with Shoeless Joe and Rose is a bit absurd, considering the offenses, but all three broke the rules of the sport and should suffer the consequences of their actions. I am willing to bet my Mickey Mantle Rookie Card that this decision will open the door for the other thugs who wear a pro uniform, those who have broken the rules of the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, et al…. and the civil laws of our country. Pro athletes have become demigods! And we have allowed them to achieve that level of shamefulness and prosperity by raising them above the law. They are no different than me and you. Unfortunately, for all of us it’s too late. We have let them get away with murder, in some cases, and we blindly have allowed them to make us all just as guilty for allowing these things to happen.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some team in need of a runningback hires Ray Rice to plug their roster hole. After all, Michael Vick got a second chance! Soccer anyone? Well, not yet, for me, anyway!!! How about Pro Wrestling? At least we know it’s rigged and phoney and funny and entertaining. Most of their so called athletes have rap sheets and their fans do too……..Only in America!
I am already tired of hearing all the cry babies spewing their idiotic garbage on talk radio shows. GET OVER IT, PEOPLE!! Tom Brady, like all other pro athletes, is human. He/they make human mistakes and cheat like other humanoids!!! The problem with the American sports fan is they idolize guys like Brady…Put him/they on pedestals like “false gods.” The “they can do no wrong” philosophy has gotta go. But, maybe it’s too late. Maybe most of you are so far gone that there’s no way to save your sorry asses…Sorry for the superlative, but this “stuff” is getting old….this love affair we have with our athletes. I know Pete Rose very well; was around him a lot back “in the day.” He cheated. He broke the rules. He should not be allowed to “share the benefits” of his athletic achievements, namely Hall of Fame enshrinement. Tom Brady is no different. Brady lied….concealed evidence… and.destroyed evidence when he broke up his cell phone. And, don'[t try and tell me this was the first time he had his “flunky fellows” deflate some game balls so he could throw the balls with more accuracy. Brady should be happy all he got is a four game suspension. He also should be fined enough money to pay the salaries of the two dudes fired who helped their “god” manipulate the “tools of his trade.” I could go on and on about this one. The bottom line is very clear—Play by the rules. Look for “the edge” by finding holes in the defense, not in the rule book. And, most of all, if you are playing a “man’s game,” act like a man. Don’t be afraid to look your fellow men in the eye and admit your wrong. We have all allowed too many rule benders to bend the rules the wrong way and get away with it. Whatever happened to “Playing for the Love of the Game,” the competition and spirit of the sport? Oh, yeah, I forgot…..MONEY! In order to keep the big bucks coming in you gotta win and you gotta have “your guy” making the big plays to put people in the seats so they can pay the high beer, hot dog and parking prices. Damn—it’s America…the new land of the “not so free…”
A few months ago I was excited to see Donald Trump jump into the Presidential race. A “REAL MAN,” not one of those Stereotyped Washington Types who was afraid to look a problem in the eye and REALLY try to solve it. Trump is a man who made me remember Ronald Reagan. That “IS” has changed to a “WAS.” Now, I can’t wait to see him go away! I don’t like Trump’s narcissistic nature. It reminds me too much of what I once was when booze and “other” stimulants fueled my life. I enjoyed TV News and Sports. I loved dealing with the people, the fans. I DID not like dealing with most TV Anchor types who thought they had the world “by the short hairs!” I was one of them, though! Yep, I DID NOT like myself. It took a “bottom hitting” episode in my life to wake me up to reality. I looked in the mirror and “saw what I Didn’t like.” I had become “one of them.”
Politicians closely resemble TV News-types. The ego’s are the same. Trump fits right in. Sadly, our America is in trouble because of our newly acquired “love-hate” feeling toward guys like him. I can’t blame you, though, our past couple of Presidents (which includes the current one), have taken us on a ride, a ride fueled by ignorance, self gratification and our own lack of interest in what’s REALLY going on. We, as a country, should be tired of being “hoodwinked” by politicians who continually “blow smoke up our naïve behinds,” and anchors who try to get us to believe every story is “breaking news.” We buy into everything!!!
Wake up, people. Step back and analyze what is being said to you by politicos and news media types. All they are doing is selling air time and their own, tainted, misguided theories. It’s gotta stop before we all wake up one day and find ISIS at our doors and nobody, with a REAL plan, to get us back on track. This train ride we have been on has to slow down. We are headed for a dark tunnel that has no end. There’s still time to wake up and save Old Glory. I’m not some John Bircher, seasoned with a “touch of McCarthyism” who thinks ALL are commies leading us to the “fires of hell.” I am a fun-loving, concerned citizen who wants others to take a second look at what we have created. Like I said, there is still time to “right the ship” if we can just get the right “captain and crew.”
I like Bud Black and I liked his managerial tools. However, when you are losing, it’s pretty tough to “fire” the whole team! You could “smell it coming” when the club hired their new General Manager. I am surprised it took him this long to “make the move” on Bud. You see, General Managers want their “own man” in the dugout. The move also has to happen if your big money lineup is playing erratic, with “nickel and dime” moments that don’t belong with a multi-million dollar payroll. Dave Roberts will do okay as interim manager. He’s lucky he has the Oakland A’s in town for a few days. You and your half-lame sister could beat this club. Let’s just hope Black’s replacement is a dude with some fire. I don’t mean the Earl Weaver or Dick Williams personality type, but close! A little whip cracking from time to time keeps the “lions on their toes” and a “little more awake.” Bud was too mellow for this group. Even when he argued with the umps he did it with gentlemanly behavior. We’ll see…there’s plenty of time to get this freight train going in the right direction with a little more steam. Let’s just hope the players buy into Bud’s replacement. I, like you, am tired of the same old, same old!
I’ve got one for you? With California in the midst of a major drought, who pays for water loss when construction workers break water mains causing mass flooding and loss of water? I thought about this today while I was watching the evening news. The lead story in most newscasts on TV & Radio was all about a water main break in Downtown San Diego at First Avenue & F Streets. It seems a construction company is responsible for the break, and should shoulder the blame for the water loss. After all, aren’t we threatened with fines if we are caught wasting water? What could be more of a waste than having a water main broken? We know the crew didn’t intentionally break the “main,” but that “goes with the flow,” so to speak. There should be more careful consideration when doing such work, especially during the drought!
Put in a call to your city, county and state legislators. Let them know how you think. PLEASE don’t take that California laid back attitude. We have to look out for each other. Don’t let things like this go away without notice and penalty. Amen!
I spent half-a-day meeting and greeting the young people at the ABLE-DISABLED ADVOCACY’S YOUTH BUILD PROGRAM on Friday in the Stockton section of San Diego at 32nd & Market. I was asked to speak to the participants about drug & alcohol abuse. I coupled it with motivational ideas. The young men and women are part of a comprehensive youth development program that addresses several core issues facing low-income youth including education, work readiness, financial assistance and employment. “Youth build,” as it is called, helps it’s students work towards 1) High School Diploma/GED program completion..2) Construction Training in Green Building Technologies..3) Leadership Development & Community Service & 4) Job Readiness Skills & Job Placement Assistance. “YouthBuild’s” Multi-Craft Curriculum training is a Pre-Apprenticeship course that includes construction industry standards, CPR, First Aid and OSHA 10 Certifications. The course also offers a pathway to post-secondary education and advanced training for other careers in the Building Trades. The program is supported by 100% funding from the U.S. Dept. Of Labor, and each student receives a weekly stipend during training, a strong incentive to stay in the program. In order to participate, students must be 17-20 years old, a high school dropout, a legal resident, and live in zip codes 92102, 92105, 92111, 92114, 92115 or 92139.
I especially want to thank former S.D. Chargers Def. End Burt Grossman, who oversees the program, Denise Yoggerst, Program Manager, and others who make all this possible. If you want more information you can contact them at (619) 928-4532. It’s so pleasing to have programs like this available to our youth. They don’t give up on the young people and neither should you!
Tom Brady is guilty and is getting a real sweet deal from the Commissioner. If you think this is the first time Brady had somebody “doctor” the footballs, then you probably think O.J. Simpson was framed! I spent most of my broadcasting life as a TV Sportscaster. I turned to news in the early 90’s because I got tired of things like this! Our pro athletes, in all sports, have been getting away with everything from deflating footballs to murder ever since fans started paying to see them play. You see, you gotta keep the “stars” on the field, on the court, in the ring, or nobody shows up to watch and pay exorbitant ticket prices and sip down over-priced beers while eating hot dogs that cost more than the best filet mignon at Donovan’s. I’m not going to say much more. It would be a waste of time. PLEASE wake up, America, and realize that you/we are being duped a lot of the time. Duped by multi-billionaire owners and multi-millionaire athletes who don’t care what you or I think. They just want you to show up and shut up…well, cheer or boo—you earned that right when you bought the over-priced ticket (s). Just stay out of their game. It’s a game of “get as much as you can, while you can.” Every so often the men that run these “pro sideshows” have to throw one or two of their ego-ridden jocks to the lions. They have to make you think they “give a “S_ _ _T.” Brady is getting off with a hand slap. Yeah, yeah, I know Commissioner Goodell let Ray Rice off the hook with a light sentence–but he’ll NEVER play in the NFL again. He’s too hot a property. You DON’T do what he did and NOT pay for it in some way. But, Tom Brady and the Patriots know what HE did. They also know he has been doing this for years. Don’t drop a tear or lose any sleep, sports fans, somehow he’ll get off the hook. You see, the box offices and Networks need him in the lineup. The ALMIGHTY DOLLAR WINS AGAIN! (((and, it’s all coming out of your pocket!!!)…AMEN…
