Today a Federal Judge ruled in favor of New England Patriots Quarterback, Tom Brady. I don’t need to explain why he went before the judge, it’s been overdone by the media for the past 8 or 9 months. If you don’t know about it, Google it. The “deflategate” fiasco has been around long enough that we all know why he was suspended for 4 games by the Commissioner. This sour and incorrect judgement will now open the floodgates for any and all who have received, or will receive, suspensions for criminal activity or violations of NFL codes. Just as Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson shouldn’t be enshrined in Baseball’s Hall of Fame, Brady should have been told he has to sit out his suspension. All three broke the rules. Putting Brady in the same class with Shoeless Joe and Rose is a bit absurd, considering the offenses, but all three broke the rules of the sport and should suffer the consequences of their actions. I am willing to bet my Mickey Mantle Rookie Card that this decision will open the door for the other thugs who wear a pro uniform, those who have broken the rules of the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, et al…. and the civil laws of our country. Pro athletes have become demigods! And we have allowed them to achieve that level of shamefulness and prosperity by raising them above the law. They are no different than me and you. Unfortunately, for all of us it’s too late. We have let them get away with murder, in some cases, and we blindly have allowed them to make us all just as guilty for allowing these things to happen.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some team in need of a runningback hires Ray Rice to plug their roster hole. After all, Michael Vick got a second chance! Soccer anyone? Well, not yet, for me, anyway!!! How about Pro Wrestling? At least we know it’s rigged and phoney and funny and entertaining. Most of their so called athletes have rap sheets and their fans do too……..Only in America!
I am already tired of hearing all the cry babies spewing their idiotic garbage on talk radio shows. GET OVER IT, PEOPLE!! Tom Brady, like all other pro athletes, is human. He/they make human mistakes and cheat like other humanoids!!! The problem with the American sports fan is they idolize guys like Brady…Put him/they on pedestals like “false gods.” The “they can do no wrong” philosophy has gotta go. But, maybe it’s too late. Maybe most of you are so far gone that there’s no way to save your sorry asses…Sorry for the superlative, but this “stuff” is getting old….this love affair we have with our athletes. I know Pete Rose very well; was around him a lot back “in the day.” He cheated. He broke the rules. He should not be allowed to “share the benefits” of his athletic achievements, namely Hall of Fame enshrinement. Tom Brady is no different. Brady lied….concealed evidence… and.destroyed evidence when he broke up his cell phone. And, don'[t try and tell me this was the first time he had his “flunky fellows” deflate some game balls so he could throw the balls with more accuracy. Brady should be happy all he got is a four game suspension. He also should be fined enough money to pay the salaries of the two dudes fired who helped their “god” manipulate the “tools of his trade.” I could go on and on about this one. The bottom line is very clear—Play by the rules. Look for “the edge” by finding holes in the defense, not in the rule book. And, most of all, if you are playing a “man’s game,” act like a man. Don’t be afraid to look your fellow men in the eye and admit your wrong. We have all allowed too many rule benders to bend the rules the wrong way and get away with it. Whatever happened to “Playing for the Love of the Game,” the competition and spirit of the sport? Oh, yeah, I forgot…..MONEY! In order to keep the big bucks coming in you gotta win and you gotta have “your guy” making the big plays to put people in the seats so they can pay the high beer, hot dog and parking prices. Damn—it’s America…the new land of the “not so free…”
Tom Brady is guilty and is getting a real sweet deal from the Commissioner. If you think this is the first time Brady had somebody “doctor” the footballs, then you probably think O.J. Simpson was framed! I spent most of my broadcasting life as a TV Sportscaster. I turned to news in the early 90’s because I got tired of things like this! Our pro athletes, in all sports, have been getting away with everything from deflating footballs to murder ever since fans started paying to see them play. You see, you gotta keep the “stars” on the field, on the court, in the ring, or nobody shows up to watch and pay exorbitant ticket prices and sip down over-priced beers while eating hot dogs that cost more than the best filet mignon at Donovan’s. I’m not going to say much more. It would be a waste of time. PLEASE wake up, America, and realize that you/we are being duped a lot of the time. Duped by multi-billionaire owners and multi-millionaire athletes who don’t care what you or I think. They just want you to show up and shut up…well, cheer or boo—you earned that right when you bought the over-priced ticket (s). Just stay out of their game. It’s a game of “get as much as you can, while you can.” Every so often the men that run these “pro sideshows” have to throw one or two of their ego-ridden jocks to the lions. They have to make you think they “give a “S_ _ _T.” Brady is getting off with a hand slap. Yeah, yeah, I know Commissioner Goodell let Ray Rice off the hook with a light sentence–but he’ll NEVER play in the NFL again. He’s too hot a property. You DON’T do what he did and NOT pay for it in some way. But, Tom Brady and the Patriots know what HE did. They also know he has been doing this for years. Don’t drop a tear or lose any sleep, sports fans, somehow he’ll get off the hook. You see, the box offices and Networks need him in the lineup. The ALMIGHTY DOLLAR WINS AGAIN! (((and, it’s all coming out of your pocket!!!)…AMEN…
It’s been a while since we “crossed paths.” I have been retired, now, almost 7 years. I miss the “action” and the people and guys like you. You always impressed me because you “stayed out of the Fray,” so to speak. You hired people to do the work for you. Unfortunately some of those you hired were “NOODNICKS!!!” I’m not writing today to complain about coach or G.M. hirings. As a matter of fact, I think you might have a pretty good team with your current G.M. and head coach. The media types don’t like the coach because he doesn’t talk to them like they were “pals” or “roomies..” The media has always been like that. IF you don’t throw them the best quotes or occasional favors, you end up on their sh_T list…
I’m writing today to tell you that I have no problem with you looking to move your “business” to another location if this one doesn’t “pan out!” What the fans don’t realize is “their” football team is “Your livelihood.” The only team in the league that “owes it’s soul” to the fans is Green Bay. The Packers have been a “publicly owned” team since their inception. For over a dozen years you have been trying to get the city to erect a new stadium. For over a dozen years you have been turned back. You “stayed the course,” kept your “fight in the ring,” pushed, lobbied and begged for something to be done to keep your team in San Diego. You hired Mark Fabiani to be your Special Counsel, your “lead horse,” the muscle. Your “point man.” He has done his job. If the Lakers had Fabiani as their point guard they’d be headed for the playoffs.
Now, you wait for the Mayors task force to try and find the financial solution. I don’t agree with the Mission Valley location. I, too, think the stadium belongs downtown. What you decide to do is, and should be, your call. You are the proprietor. I don’t want to see the people of San Diego strapped with a huge payoff or taxes. After the Petco Park “heist” by John Moores, we’ll be paying “long into the century and beyond.”
As much as I love the Chargers and the people of San Diego, I also am a realist. I understand the business aspect of all of this. It’s like my friend Alfonso. His family has had a superb Mexican restaurant in La Jolla for 32 years. The landlord has “upped” the rent again…through the roof…so Alfonso is looking for a new location out of La Jolla. His “fans” don’t want him to go, but it’s all about business. Loyalty is not the key word here..It’s DINERO, my friend, and YOU have the same concerns.
Good LUCK in your endeavors, Dean. I know you will be the most hated man in San Diego modern history if you move the team. But, you gotta do what you gotta do. Your loyalty is to you, your family and your team’s fate.
Love & Kisses,
There’s more rumors flying around about Philip Rivers than rumors about Bruce Jenner’s identity crisis. Rivers, who enters the final year of a his contract, is reportedly not happy that the Chargers might be in L.A. after next season. You see, the quarterback is a father of 7 and the closest he wants his kids to get to the City of Angels is Disneyland. The N.C. State alum grew up not far from Nashville. The Titans are one of the teams that REALLY wants him, along with Buffalo and, yes, even Philly. San Diego fans have to realize that Rivers will NEVER lead them to a SuperBowl. With that in mind they have to be ready to accept seeing him in another uniform. It’s not like giving away the franchise. He’s borderline Hall of Fame quality. His temper and loose play in key situations has always scared me. The Chargers brass knows they can get quality talent for him, but they have to do it by or before the draft. It’s rumored the Chargers will work out Marcus Mariota in April. That smells of a deal made on or before draft day. San Diego would also like UCLA’s Brett Hundley. Stay tuned, sports fans, this story will take many other shapes before draft day. If I was a betting man, and I am NOT, I would say Rivers SHOULD be history in San Diego even though his bosses vehemently deny it right now.
R.B. Ryan Matthews has plans to talk with the Philadelphia Eagles.. Matthews SHOULD take any job, anywhere, other than San Diego! Matthews is damaged goods…snakebit…accident prone! He might surprise the football world and survive a season without injury, but I would bet my new Nike’s that won’t happen. Matthews is a talent. But, he is also one who has been slowed by injury, damaged goods. His injuries mean lack of playing time for a team that needs a consistent run presence. There’s free agent talent available and the draft is another place they can do better. Ryan Matthews was ONCE a fixture, but now only a disability. Get out, Chargers, while the gettin’s good!
